A sleek rustic style loft: the best of both worlds.

For this project, two apartments were tastefully joined together to make up a single delightful rustic style loft. The interior of the penthouse was fitted out in a sleek rustic style.

It was decided to go for light colours, pleasant fabrics and natural materials to create a homely, intimate atmosphere without going overboard on frills.

The modern cachet of the rustic style loft can be seen in the contrast between the restrained colours and the sturdy, sleek door handles in Aged Iron.

The pièce de résistance of this sleek rustic style gem is the kitchen. A blend of black and bronze authentic, hand-cast wall tiles up against the splashback lend the entire kitchen a unique, modern look and feel.

A real sense of homecoming in a well thought-out sleek rustic style loft

There is good reason why the lady owner came knocking on Nicky Goossens’ door to design her brand new Limburg penthouse. “We already knew one another as I had also designed her previous home. That interior was more rural in appearance, whereas here, the remit was to go for a sleeker look.”

However, sleek is hardly synonymous with cool and detached in this case. If anything, the contrary is true. The walls of the sleek rustic style loft are swathed in a light sandy colour that is broken up by ebony oakwood cabinets and doors.

These contrasting colours with a contemporary look and feel are also taken up by the door fittings. The PH1920 door handles in Aged Iron from the Pure® collection are inspired by the Bauhaus period: door fittings with a touch of nostalgia that will perfectly suit any contemporary interior, courtesy of their rectangular design vocabulary.

A seasoned interior stylist, Nicky embarked on the design of this sleek rustic style loft well prepared. Working closely with the lady owner, she set out on a quest to come up with unique interior solutions. Not just the broad outlines, but every minute detail, such as the tiles behind the cooker and the cupboard handles were tackled with the utmost punctiliousness.

The PQ20 furniture knobs in the kitchen have a trim design which still oozes warmth through the use of the naturally Aged Iron. The furniture hardware is from the Pure® collection, which will perfectly suit modern as well as rustic home interior styles, making them ideal for this sleek rustic style loft!

For the kitchen, I was already considering the black, metal tiles from Dauby’s Pure Tiles collection, but I also added in a number of tiles in a bronze-ish gold tone.
