Sure, some people have a thing for retro style interiors. And you have no problem seeing why. But retro simply isn’t your cup of tea. You want your home to be modern, simple even. The key to creating a contemporary interior? It’s all about letting the room itself take centre stage by opting for a limited amount of furniture and selecting contemporary door and furniture fittings as the finishing touch.

Minimalist, but not cold

Modern interiors are sometimes labelled cold. But you know better! The contemporary interior you’ve got your heart set on is minimalist yet comfortable and inviting. There’s no clutter in sight, so that clean lines and a well-chosen colour palette have no trouble stealing the show. You can never go wrong with black and white but don’t hesitate to include striking accents. Think brightly coloured accessories, door handles and even feature walls.

A contemporary interior with playful details

Blue satin footstools, heavy wooden tables, a red leather sofa and porcelain vases … are a no-go in contemporary homes. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get creative with textures and materials. As long as you stick to your limited colour palette, you can experiment all you want. How about, for example, exposing some bricks or copper pipes instead of neatly finishing the wall, and why not take your doors to a whole new level with statement door handles in Raw Bronze ? If you want to add more warmth to your modern interior, jute, wool and silk are fabrics worth giving a go.

Don’t make a fuss

Contemporary furniture is both simple and elegant, and is soft yet geometrically shaped. Stay clear from fussy items like carved wooden screens and frilly accessories like cushions and carpets with tassles. The same applies to your furniture fittings. If your current pulls and handles are too flamboyant, it’s best to replace them with something more sleek and modern.
