When Paul Dauby retired in 1994, Annie Van Ingelgem and her husband Holger Nielsen did not have to think twice to take over from him. Even then, Dauby already enjoyed considerable renown by virtue of its exclusive top design, although – like so many Western businesses – the company was hard hit by the Chinese counterfeit market. Which is why Annie and Holger decided to take Dauby in a fresh direction by tapping into a niche market. This saw them turn Dauby into a green business which continues to produce handcrafted unique door and window fittings to this very day.
Authentic production
Buying Dauby door and window fittings means you are buying an exclusive quality product produced in the purest tradition. Door and window fittings in the way they were made way back when: perfect to imbue your country-style home interior an authentic flavour. The technique used by Dauby to craft its products goes back over 5,000 years. Natural materials (such as bronze, white bronze, silver-plated white bronze, tin, cast iron, …) are melted and poured into sand moulds by expert craftsmen before each product is hand-finished – down to the smallest detail.
Unique charm
Dauby’s time-honoured traditional hand-crafted production process makes that no one product is exactly the same. The hand finish approach inevitably results in minor imperfections which are an inherent element of the products which makes for their one-of-a-kind aesthetic appeal! It is this rough beauty that lends each individual piece its unique charm and imbues your country-style home with a sense of authenticity.
A lifetime’s pleasure
Made from high-grade natural materials and hand-crafted by expert craftsmen, Dauby fittings are extremely hard-wearing and green. Moreover, the fittings require little in the way of maintenance. Just a quick rub down with a dry cloth – with perhaps a small dash of beeswax – and your door handles and fittings are back to their enchanting look of old. In other words, you will not need to replace your fittings any time soon. More so, by dint of their natural patina, Dauby’s traditional hand-crafted fittings only get more gorgeous with the passage of time!
